Do not choose by the word “unlimited” or by headline price alone. The decisive questions are whether the phone is unlocked, whether you need outgoing Korean calls or SMS, how much high-speed data is included before any management policy, and whether your group can separate.

eSIM: convenient only after compatibility is confirmed

An eSIM downloads a carrier profile instead of using a removable card. It can let a dual-SIM phone keep the home line available while Korean data uses the travel line. That is helpful for receiving messages on the original number, but your home carrier may still charge roaming fees if its line remains active.

Before buying, verify all of these:

• The phone is carrier-unlocked.
• The exact model and sales region support eSIM on the chosen Korean network.
• The device shows an EID, but also appears on the provider's compatibility guidance.

Check the exact airport, terminal, arrival time and reservation requirement rather than assuming every city shop can issue the same tourist plan.

Pocket WiFi: one connection shared by the group

A pocket WiFi router creates a hotspot for phones, tablets or laptops. It avoids changing each device's SIM, which is useful for a family carrying several Wi-Fi devices. It also creates a single point of failure: everyone loses the connection if the holder walks away, the battery empties or the device is damaged.

Compare the number of simultaneous devices, daily high-speed allowance, reduced-speed policy, battery or power-bank provision, pickup location, return location, late-return fees and loss or damage charges. Data-only is not the same as a working Korean phone number

A plan may provide data, a number that can receive something, or full domestic voice and SMS. Those are different products. If you need a restaurant waitlist, accommodation call, delivery contact or app verification, check these rows before paying:

• Does the plan include a Korean number?
• Can it receive calls and SMS?
• Can it make outgoing calls and send SMS, and is a separate balance required?
• Does it support ordinary service messages but not identity verification?
• Can you extend voice, data or validity after activation?

For example, the current LG U+ visitor page distinguishes data-only from data-plus-voice and says bank or government identity verification is not supported. That is a product limitation, not a reason to assume another carrier's plan works. Read the exact plan table.

Compare “unlimited” plans line by line

“Unlimited” may describe total connectivity while high-speed data, tethering or congestion management still has conditions. Compare:

1. network generation and stated speed;
2. high-speed amount per day or whole plan;
3. speed after that amount;
4. hotspot or tethering permission and limit;
5. whether a “day” means a calendar day or a rolling 24-hour period;
6. activation deadline and expiry time;
7. refund rules before and after installation, pickup or first use.

Use the final official checkout terms as the source. A reseller can sell a legitimate network plan with different activation, support and refund conditions from the network operator's direct product.

Set it up before leaving the airport

1. Connect to official airport Wi-Fi and save the QR code or activation instructions offline.
2. Turn off data roaming on the home line unless your home carrier's terms require it.
